The Anaheim Police
Survivors and Scholarship Fund is a tax exempt Trust that was established
to financially assist the family of any Anaheim Police Officer who should
lose his or her life while in the performance of his or her job. This
assistance is temporary until the family begins receiving funds from the
State Retirement System, which usually takes 60-90 days. The purpose of
the Fund is to attempt to lessen the trauma of such a loss by alleviating
some of the financial worry based on each family’s need. In addition
there is a scholarship program through which the Fund annually awards
scholarships to children of Anaheim officers attending community colleges
or universities. The Board of Trustees of the Survivors and Scholarship
Fund consists of three Honorary members, three APA Executive Board members
and the Anaheim Chief of Police.
The Trust Fund has reached
its present size by annual fund-raisers hosted jointly by the APA and the Honoraries.
The Fund also receives some individual and
organizational donations.
Through these activities
and careful investments, the Fund is maintained at a level of
approximately $100,000. Each year the Survivors and Scholarship Fund
Trustees approve the amount of money to award in scholarships to the
children of Anaheim Police Officers. The amount varies every year.
